Pocket Odyssey (from Left to Right):
Kyle Kramer- Drums and Backup Vocals
Joshua Schultz - Bass Guitar and Backup Vocals
Joshua Patch- Lead Guitar and Lead Vocals
Formed in the year 2006, Pocket Odyssey was started by Joshua Patch (vocals and guitar) and Kyle Kramer (drums), who would soon recruit fellow schoolmate Logan Turner to learn to play bass for the band. Throughout the end of middle school and high school Josh and Kyle would frequently play together and continue to write new material for the band.
In the summer of 2010 the band would see the addition of Joshua Schultz on rhythm guitar and Joel Jeske would replace Logan Turner on the bass. After the summer the band would again be in need of a bassist, at which point Josh Schultz would pick up a bass for the first time. This would solidify the line-up of Pocket Odyssey as we know it today.
Why the name, "Pocket Odyssey?"
During the 2007-08 school year, our favorite pastime was (and still is) playing music. Our second favorite pastime was thinking of cool band names. While we thought of many eligible band names, (some of which you may see in the future), we couldn't seem to find the perfect one to use for our own, newly-formed group. During that school year we studied ancient history, from Creation through the life of Christ, and in conjunction with this study made a timeline around the walls of our classroom representing major events from this period. One of these events was the writing of Homer's Odyssey, which was represented on the timeline by a "pocket-version" of The Odyssey, authored by Kyle. It was titled "The Pocket Odyssey: by Homer," and was written using the simple language style commonly found in Dick and Jane children's books. Upon analysis of this item, Mr. Kramer (our Humanities teacher at the time) proceeded to comment: "Pocket Odyssey... That's a good band name, eh?"
And thus Pocket Odyssey was born.
